There is a corrupted registry file. I suggest trouble shooting in this
order. 1. Boot from a XP CD (if you have one) into Recovery Console and run chkdsk /r since disk errors are one frequent cause of this error. 2. Look at the following procedure. - How to recover from a corrupted registry that prevents Windows XP from starting http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=307545 3. If the drive is OK and the above procedure is excluded or fails, try a repair install. -- "Ryan" <Ryan@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:09408D6E-2944-4F87-A983-0618215817A8@microsoft.com... > As Windows loads up, it will give me the usual: "Windows did not start > successfully ... My recovery media does not allow me to get into the recovery console like a
normal XP CD. It is 3 CD's. How do I repair if I can't get into the repair console? "GTS" wrote: > There is a corrupted registry file. I suggest trouble shooting in this > order. > 1. There is no floppy. Just a DVD/CDRW drive. The recovery media doesn't really
allow any options. Basically, you just pop in the 1st CD and it start recovering, then prompts for the 2nd & 3rd CD's. Sorry that you don't have a floppy - you could have used the floppy disk set to run the Recovery Console. Not having one is very common these days. Don't have one on my desktop either. Unfortunately, the limited abilities of your recovery media limit your choices of repair methods. You might call support for your laptop for suggestions. There's a slim chance they may be able to offer you alternatives but most likely they will refer you to using your recovery media. Can't hurt to ask... -- Sharon F MS-MVP ~ Windows Shell/User |

I have a floppy drive from a desktop I could pull from. But could I configure
a floppy drive to a laptop? "Sharon F" wrote: > On Tue, 15 Nov 2005 09:37:12 -0800, Ryan wrote: > > > There is no floppy. Just a DVD/CDRW drive.
