Since I wiped my drive and reloaded Windows and the rest of my software, I
have not been able to read from my DVD drive. My CD drive is okay, though. I used the troubleshooting facility, but it did not solve the problem. Any help will be appreciated. --Dave |

what cables? inside the chassis? How would they have come loose?
not sure how to get to the bios, but it shows in Device Manager and in My Computer. It's a combo DVD/CD-R/W drive, make and model JLMS XJ-HD166S. I have no software update that I know of. Honestly, I don't know how to get to the original bundled S/W. I am going to run a reovery tools CD that I made and see if it covers the DVD drive. The computer knows the DVD drive is there. Nothing happens when I load a
DVD, so I click on the drive icon to open it, and a window opens that says "Please insert a disk into drive E." I then open the drive and re-insert the CD, and nothing happens. The hardware device manager says the device is working properly. I tried removing the driver and reinstalling it, but that did not do any good. To get to the bios you need to turn off the computer (cold boot) and wait a
few secs and then power up, at the very first screen, be tapping on the F1, F2, or DEL key, mine is F1.. It depends on your computer brand etc.. Ok, you have not been in the case, so the cables should be fine then.. The drive probably is old enough to toss out and replace with a new DVD-RW drive, end of year close out deals..etc.. A firmware update may fix the drive or at least let you know it's time to get a new drive.. The Nero Infotool can give you a diagnostic look at your optical drives.. Use the Nero Infotool to get the drive string ID and firmware version #, then post the results, your call.. http://www.nero.com/en/Info_Tool.html Good luck.. j;-j "geezaflip" wrote: > what cables? inside the chassis? You may need to disable the inbuilt CD Wiz, if you use a third party burning
app.. http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;826510 j;-j "geezaflip" wrote: > The computer knows the DVD drive is there.
