Just re-installed Windows XP.

640 x 480, 16 bit color. When I go to monitor properties, the
properties button is disabled.

I need to set it to a real resolution, because half the screen is black
bars.

What do I do?

You'll need to reinstall your graphics cards driver. Do you have a clue
as to what model of card you have?
