Default Maxtor One Touch 120GB rated, reads 642.46GB

I've found heaps of references to windows reporting smaller than rated
capacity, but larger?
I can format a partition of 117GB with Windows XP or Win2k using Disk
Management tool, yet when formatting, the end message reads, "format failed
to complete".

Any ideas appreciated!

It sounds like it think it's bigger (more heads, cylinders etc) than the
drive really is. Can you manually set those parameters in the CMOS instead
of auto-detect?
