Default Windows XP not recognizing Epsonscanner in Device Manager/Cntl Pan

I have had this recurring problem, scanner is not recognized in my Windows XP
Control Panel under Scanners and Cameras and also under Device Manager,
Hardware. When I try to use my scanner, it shows that it is not properly
connected and try again. In other words, windows does not recognize the
scanner on the system. This happens several times a year, and it is a
!@#$$%^ to try and fix.

any suggestions, is it wia, drivers, plug and play or what. Do not have
viruses on computer, etc.

Any suggestions, has anyone else run into this problem with the Epson 1650
photo scanner?

Is the scanner connected by usb, firewire or serial port? Is the scanner
turned on? Is the Epson software installed? What is your hardware set up?

Scanner is connected by usb. Scanner can only turn on when the system is on,
there is no on button. Hardware is set up with latest updates and windows xp
It is properly connected but still it is not recognized by windows.

More importantly, is it correctly installed? Most USB devices require the
software to be installed first, and hardware connected when the installer
says to...

Adding....
Same problem but with an HP scanner. Also, I go into device manager to
see if all devices are working properly and drivers installed, and I get an
empty box. Obvously most other drivers must be installed for me to add this.
I've tried system restore just in case and find that there were no changes
to System files.

I don't want to do anything too dramatic just yet.

Hello Bob:

I always go for technical support with the company, in your case hp, via
email. Hopefully they can troubleshoot the problem. I have done this
previously with epson, and sometimes they help, and the last time it was
sheer luck that the system came back up again. I also did a system restore,
it did not do the trick.

So I would suggest contact hp and see if they can offer some advise,

thanks, joyce
