DVD ROM 16X

MY DVD ROM(NOT THE RW ) PLAYS CHOPPY. I CAN'T GET THE DEVICE(1) TO SWITCH
TO DMA MODE. IT STAYS IN PIO ONLY MODE(BOTH PRIMARY AND SECONDARY). I KNOW
MY PROBLEM WOULD BE SOLVED IF I COULD GET THE DEVICE TO WORK IN DMA MODE.
HOW DO I MAKE THE SWITCH. I HAVE TRIED THE TROUBLE SHOOTER BUT THE COMPUTER
WILL NOT SWITCH TO DMA MODE FOR THIS DEVICE.

I don't know to what troubleshooter you are referring. Have you checked
out the information by MVP Hans-Georg Michna at this link:

If not, please do so.

Otherwise, your hardware may have failed. First reseat the cable and the
power connector. If that doesn't fix anything, swap out the ribbon
cable for a known-working one. If that doesn't work, swap out the drive
for a known-working one. If that doesn't solve the problem, your
motherboard may be at fault.

BTW, in the future please don't post in all caps. It is considered
shouting and rude on Usenet, but more importantly it makes your post
very hard to read. I don't say this to hurt your feelings but rather to
help you maximize your chances of getting a good answer.
