Hello,
I have an external maxtor firewire disc connected to my PC and at startup of the system it takes longer and longer until the drive gets ready, i.e. the red led dissapears and the drive icon appears on my system. The disc contains roughly 55 GB of data, manly dvd single layer data, i.e. the average file size is around 1GB. all drivers are up to date according to windows update and the drive does not report any malfunctions. what can I do? |

Do not power-on the Maxtor drive until your system
has booted to the desktop. Power-off the Maxtor before turning-off your PC. -- Carey Frisch Microsoft MVP Windows - Shell/User Microsoft Community Newsgroups news://msnews.microsoft.com/ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "gbgkille69" wrote: | Hello, | | I have an external maxtor firewire disc connected to my PC and at | startup of the system it takes longer and longer until the drive gets | ready, i.e. the red led dissapears and the drive icon appears on my | system. Thanks for the answer, that is of course not very user friendly, (and
it worked fine before), I use this disc as a "permanent" 2nd disc and also for backup. I want to start the entire system with one button only. Is the same recommended for external USB drives too or only for firewire? what is the reasons for this "behaviour"? |

I've just tried it and the result is the same. even if I connect the drive after windows is up it will take 5-10 minutes until it is ready for windows to recognise. another thing, there is no power on/off button on the device which makes this approach evene more difficult. gbgkille69@spray.se skrev: > Thanks for the answer, that is of course not very user friendly, (and > it worked fine before), I use this disc as a "permanent" 2nd disc and > also for backup.
