Default Wireless Mouse- Battery Usage.

I recently purchased a wireless mouse (Logitech Wireless).

I leave my machine on 24/7 but it goes on standby after 20 minutes of
non-usage (or I place it on stamdby manually) Everything works great but I
seem to be changeing the mouse batteries every 7-8 days. I use rechargeable
Duracell NiMH batteries so I am not buying batteries all the time but is a
bit of a pain having to change the batterries just when I am in the middle
of something.

Is this normal battery usage?

Also is a laser mouse better than the rgular wireless mouse.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Battery usage normal, your mouse is powered on even if PC is on standby.
I purchased a logitech wireless mouse that has its own charging cradle, I
got fed.up with constantly charging batteries.
I find the optical mouse far superior to a std 'ball'

My son tells me that his new logitech laser mouse has substantially more
dpi resolution. My answer was, how does this improve your work? So
far, he has no response. Frankly, I find this new mouse to be just a
bit too large for comfort, even at improved dpi resolution.

If you use a mousepad, make sure it's a light color. A dark color mousepad
will drain the batteries faster. Found this information on the web.
Changed my mousepad, and my batteries last much, much longer.

Dennis,

My wife's Logitech wireless wheel mouse runs for months on a set of regular
AAA batteries. On the other hand, I don't always remember to put my Logitech
wireless optical mouse in it's recharging cradle at night and it only
operates for a couple of days on the rechargeable batteries before the red
low power light comes on.

I have the Microsoft wireless KB & Mouse and the batteries have been in it
for just over 3 months now and still report as fine.

My old style Microsft wireless mouse I replaced them about every 4-5 weeks.

And yes my computer is on 24/7 and gets 4-7 hours of use per day.

And this has what to do with WinXP, exactly?

Ask in a hardware group.
