I have a Sony CRX220E CD-RW and a Sony DRU-500A DVD-RW drive installed
in my Windows XP Pro system. They both worked flawlessly until after a Critical Update session. This was prior to my upgrading to SP-2 and I can't really say which update was responsible because I batched a bunch of them at once. Now the drives don't want to recognize new CDs and DVDs when I insert them. The drives appear in My Computer like they should but I get a "No Disk" or similar errors when I try to access them. I can usually get them to wake up if I go into the device properties screen and click the "Populate" button on the "Volumes" tab or run a Sandra diagnostic on the drive but if left to their own devices, the drives will never recognize new media on their own. Every diagnostic routine I've run says everything is working fine. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers but that doesn't help. I installed recently SP-2 hoping that would clear the problem but that hasn't helped either. Anyone have any ideas? I'm stumped. Windows XP/2002 Pro. 5.01.2600 (Service Pack 2) Intel D865PERL motherboard Intel RL86510A.86A.0073.P14.0402030948 BIOS Intel Pentium 4 CPU 2.66GHz 1023MB DDR-SDRAM CD-RW driver: Microsoft version 5.1.2535.0 DVD-RW driver: Microsoft version 5.1.2535.0 Pete |
