Default New Hard Drive Problem

We used to have a 7 gig HD as the slave in our PC but I picked up a 40 gig
from where I work and just plugged it in the old HDs place. The computer
recognizes the hard drive in the device manager and in the BIOS settings at
startup. The problem is that it's not showing up in My Computer so it's
useless to me so far.

The hard drive is a Maxtor D740X-6L but the computer calls it a MAXTOR
6L040J2 in the device manager. I've already tried searching for other
drivers but XP seems to like the default anyway.

Anyone seen this before?

You need to use Disk Management to initialize the drive before it can
be used. Click Start, and then click Control Panel. Click Performance
and Maintenance, click Administrative Tools, and then double-click
Computer Management. Select Storage, Disk Management.
