Default New HDD drive not visible in My Computer

I have just installed a new HDD on my XP desktop. I have it set to primary
slave in bios, with XP booting from my old HDD. The problem is, although its
detected in Bios and visible in device manager, I cannot see it to copy data
to in 'my computer'. Can anyone help???

Also, can anyone suggest a good free program to copy the contents of my old
disk (inlcuding windows and program files) to the new one??

Many thanks in advance...

Has it been partitioned and formatted?
Won't show up in my computer until you do!!
Use Computer Disk Management to partition and format. Windows should assign
drive letter. If not, can also manually assign drive letter.

Start>Run>diskmgmt.msc

Don't think you will get software free.
