Have you tried updating the drives firmware or updating the Nero software
from each of their respective sites..?

Interesting blog, could it apply to your situation..?

Have you disabled the inbuilt XP CD Wiz..? See how..

Food for thought..

Have you used the Nero Info tool to see what media your drive will burn too..?
What media DVD-RW, DVD-R, DVD+RW, DVD+R won't burn...?
Nero InCd, do you use it too..? Do you format the media first..?
Did you ever update the OEM software or the Nero retail version..? Even new
out of the box software should be updated, to fix bugs or other issues
arising after the product ships to the retailer..
Do you have other burning or DVD video apps loaded, DVDSanta seems to make
my system unstable, until it's removed.. Changing from one media type to
another frequently can cause OS or optical drive confusion, a reboot or log
off seems to solve it for me..If my drive Icon for my DVD drive changes to CD
drive after changing media, I log off, or do warm boot or a cold boot, if
necessary..

Use this free diagnostic to ID your new mobo and it's chipset, drivers, etc..
Then go to the OEM's web site and see if there are any updates for your
board..

Hope this can help..

Most DVD drives have two lasers. One is used on CDs and the second is for
DVDs. If you tried a lens cleaner disk and it did not fix your problem, yes
the drive can be defective.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys, everything (chipset, firmware,
driver, update wise) is current and optimal. I pulled the sony drive
and put it in another box, and it works fine. I was almost hoping it
wouldn't just so I could say the drive is F'ed and get a ew one, but I
intend to either overcome the issue, or @least figure out why it has
overcome me. Will keep trying just about anything. Once again, thanks
for the help guys. -Pickluh
