Default Cannot install new hardware. Access denied

I have a screen shot of the error. Cannot Install this Hardware. There was a
problem installing the hardware. Then the model of the DVD drive I am trying
to install. An error occurred during the installation of the device. Access
is denined.
I thought it was the DVD driver not compatible so I went and bought a
different one at CompUSA and another at Office Depot. Same thing. I now know
it is an XP issue. Possible a registry edit needs to be done, but I need some
help and direction. I have scaned for viruses, spyware, and reinstalled SP2.
I have ran the sfc /scannow. I have replaced the driver.cab file with the
one off the CD. I have tried the jumpers and no combonation works. When I go
to update the driver it just comes up with the same box. Access denied.

Please help!

try using "update driver" under/for this drive from device manager.

Tried that and just comes back with the same error message.
I am backing up the data and will try a repair install.

look in computer management. does device show up there?

Start>run>diskmgmt.msc

if there, assign driver letters.
Don't think they will be there but worth a try.

Ok I can see it in the diskmgmt and now in the device manager it looks fine,
but the wizard still comes up with the same thing except there is no access
denied. It is data is invalid.
