USB is acting very strange. I tried to add a new External Drive USB 2.0 to
my XPSP2 system. Windows said it had to find the driver. When it found the driver it was unable to install it because it could not read the device. I unstalled the device controller and the USB controller would not re-install. Same error that it could not read the device. I tried everything I saw on the web to no avail to re-install the controller. Next I unplugged a usb 1.1 device I had on my system. Now Windows does not recoginze the device once I plug it back in. Same device driver errors. I am afraid to disconnect my Printer because it wont recognize that too. Any help on why my USB is self-destructing would by really appreciated. Thanks Stewart |

Is it connected directly to PC or in an a USBHUB.
If it is connected to a usb hub you should have external power to the hub. I have had "problems like you" with a hub without power. Changed that to a hub with ekternal power and evrything worked |
