I have installed Windows XP Home in a new WDC wd1600jb HD. The
motherboard is ASUS P5WD2 Premium. Everything works fine, but Windows shows (device manager) that the hd is SCSI (it should be IDE or EIDE). In addition to that by loading Windows it always ask to verify the hd. It seems that there is nothing wrong but i would like to know why Windows see that hd as SCSI and why it keeps asking to verify the hd. Thanks, |

This is quite normal is you must add a specialised driver in order for Windows
to see the drive correctly. On 01/12/2005 "E. Galvao" <siga.e@hotmail.com> wrote: >I have installed Windows XP Home in a new WDC wd1600jb HD. The >motherboard is ASUS P5WD2 Premium. Hmmm this worries me. Windows normaly will name it the same way as the bios
sees it. It does not require a driver. Just like a CD Rom the BIOS gets the needed info from the drive firmware. (There may be a beter term to use then firmware) If I were you I would goto westerndigital.com and download "data life guard tools". It will create a bootable disk you can use to test the drive. It is possible that you do not have the correct IDE drivers installed. If you do updating them may help. The Woodpile "E. Galvao" wrote: > I have installed Windows XP Home in a new WDC wd1600jb HD. Nothing wrong; pretty normal. I don't know why you are being asked to verify. -- Cheers, Bob |

Did you load the Intel driver package for the motherboard?
The Sata RAID driver as well? -- Jonny "E. Galvao" <siga.e@hotmail.com> wrote in message news:%23Ryuufr9FHA.444@TK2MSFTNGP11.phx.gbl... > I have installed Windows XP Home in a new WDC wd1600jb HD. At the end, I had to re-install Windows in order to solve those problems. But all your comments were very useful. In fact the ASUS Motherboard P5WD2 Premium has so many resources that it has to be careful about the driver installation. Again, thank you for your help. Best regards, |
