Default Problems connecting new mp3/wma player

Having spent 3 months unsuccesfully trying to connect a Ipod mini to my Dell
Inspiron laptop I have given up and given it to my daughter and I now have a
Matsunichi player. However I still have a problem! The new hardware wizard
pops up and having followed the instructions it comes back and tells me it
was unable to install the device. The device shows up as an unknown device in
Device Manager, with a yellow exclamation mark. It does not show up in My
Computer at all. Although the instructions say you should only need to use
the installation cd if you have windows98, Itried to use it and it said that
a more up to date driver was already installed on my computer, so I cancelled
the installation.I thought this was a problem with the Ipod mini as Apple
Discussions are full of problems connecting to pc's, but it seems I have a
problem with my laptop. Please can anyone help me??

The link above takes you to the FAQ for your player. There are questions
there that may help you out. Are you sure you have the latest USB 2.0
drivers for your laptop?

Thanks for the response Kevin.
I checked out the link and downloaded the fimware, but when I ran it it said
that I already had a newer version of the driver installed!! I think I should
have the latest USB 2.0 drivers as when I was having problems with the Ipod
mini I checked Windows update and Dell updates. Should I check anywhere else
for updates.....or do I have to go down to my local computer repair shop!!
