I'm using a Samsung CD R-R/RW SW-252S in a Dell Dimension 8400 - Windows XP
Pro. In attempting to write a CD the recording program (Sonic RecordNow) gets down to 3-4 seconds left and then I get an error message that there is a problem with the disk. I have tried with 5 different disks - is it possible that I have a bad batch of CD's? Is there another possible explanation? |

Another bit of information - it is not the cd's per se because I can
successfully write to them using another computer. So I'm currently going down several paths, most of which I have only a somewhat more than vague understanding of: update firmware - need help from Dell, Samsung firmware didn't work and referred me to Dell, Dell doesn't seem to have the right model available aspi layer update/create - ran adaptec aspichk.exe which said that I didn't have a proper aspi later - ran their program to create one - I have one now but seems to be the NT one, not the XP one. DMA down to PIO - I'm set to DMA if available but I'm in PIO...hmmm So, I obviously have work to do before pestering anyone here - in the meantime, if anyone has two cents to through in, please feel free. btw, I don't write cd's very often - two significant things happened between now and back when I could write them w/o issue: - upgrade to xp sp2 - flood in home, 5 in. of H2O in the tower, computer died, replaced the motherboard and brought it back to life "Pam" wrote: > I'm using a Samsung CD R-R/RW SW-252S in a Dell Dimension 8400 - Windows XP > Pro. > > In attempting to write a CD the recording program (Sonic RecordNow) gets > down to 3-4 seconds left and then I get an error message that there is a > problem with the disk. > > I have tried with 5 different disks - is it possible that I have a bad batch > of CD's? Lo and behold - I solved the problem. For the sake of anyone with a similar
symptom - the DMA had reverted to PIO - in the course of attempting to change the IDE cable (which was not the problem) the BIOS reset itself and all is well.
