Default Screen "stretch" problem

Hi all. I'm on a laptop with XP SP2 and my graphics card is a GeForce FX
Go 5200 (dunno what else you need to know, please let me know).
Basically every so often the display will "stretch" so the whole screen
is not visible, everything looks stretched out and weird (like
widescreen) and the only solution is to close the laptop to put it on
standby and when things start up again it's all hunky dory.

The problem seems to happen almost every time I start a media program
like iTunes or Windows Media Player, but sometimes happens randomly
when I click on a random file/folder/whatever.

Someone please help, this is driving me insane!!!

Offhand, it sounds like your graphics chip is overheating. Apply the
latest video drivers from your laptop mftr.'s website for your specific
model laptop. If that fixes the issue, great - you're done. If that
doesn't fix the problem, contact the laptop's tech support. If it is a
hardware problem (overheating, video chip failure, etc.) you can't fix
this yourself.

Some laptops have problems with standby or hybernation and device
settings get lost. What happens if you reboot and not just resume from
standby?

Still have the problem. It has been happening a lot less in the last
week though, not every time I open up a media program. I'll try the
driver thing and hope it's that and not overheating Thanks for the
advice guys
