Default Hardware fault testing

Hello. Does anyone know of a toolset which can detect component failure
(apar from memtest) which could detect which component is faulty on,
say, a motherbord that doesnt boot? The best method at the mo' it seems
is trial ad error and inter-changing components with another platform.
(The problem with that of course is that you might need a dozen test
beds)

Yes. That is exactly the problem with testing m/b's. There are some m/b
testing programs such as PCDoctor, TuffTest, etc. but still with
hardware testing it comes down to swapping stuff out in a systematic
way. There are also POST cards which can be helpful. You just have to
be Sherlock about it. If you've swapped out everything and then
stripped the machine down to the absolute bare necessities and are
still getting errors, then by process of elimination you know the m/b
is bad.
