Default OS does not recognise the amount of RAM

When I boot up, I get the following message: OS Install Mode enabled, amount
of avail memory limited to 256 mb. Strike F1 to continue, F8 to go to setup.
The computer operates fine once I strike F1. Bios shows that there is 1024
mb. System Properties via Control Panel & Perf. Maint. folder, shows 256 mb.
However, System Info Folder via Accessories, System Tools shows 1024 mb of
ram. The computer info under the help and support center shows the 1gig of
memory. If I remove the two 516 chips and insert just one 256 chip, the
message does not appear at startup. How can I fix this?

Sounds like a motherboard problem. Ask their tech support people.
