Hi
I find about 8-9 unwanted "PCI Simple Communications Controller" entries in the Device Manager window, i also see that at system start up (BIOS). The problem with these extra devices is that i cannot install Windows XP , it stops at "34 Minutes remaining" stage. Is there some way i can remove/delete these entries, i am presently using Window 2003 Server for all my day-to-day computing work. TIA Barry |

Try following:
- enter BIOS setup and look for option named like "reset [PnP] configuration data". - do this - reboot Regards, --PA "Barry" wrote: > Hi > > I find about 8-9 unwanted "PCI Simple Communications Controller" > entries in the Device Manager window, i also see that at system start up > (BIOS). > The problem with these extra devices is that i cannot install Windows > XP , it stops at "34 Minutes remaining" stage. > Is there some way i can remove/delete these entries, i am presently > using Window 2003 Server for all my day-to-day computing work. > > TIA > Barry |

Hi

While checking out your processor, check out your time
and/or time zone too. You're about 14 hours ahead of the world. Just delete all the entries and physical remove the modem from the PC (for now.). BTW: Are you doing an "upgrade" to XP from Windows 2003 Server? You usually can not upgrade a "server" grade Windows to a single user version of Windows. -- --- Y. |

Hi Guys
Thanks for the replies. I had installed Windows XP over 30-40 times earlier without any problem, but these new entries were probaly created by either Vector Linux or Fedora Core 4 which i had installed some time ago. Note : i am not trying to upgrade from Windows 2003 Server, but rather trying to install Windows XP standalone. Hi
Thanks for your reply I am aware of this webpage of microsoft "34 Minutes remaining", but i do have a question on this subject Do i have to temporarily disconnect Sound card, Modem card etc everytime i am installing Windows XP (Windows 2003 server does not have this problem) ??? If the answer is yes i think it is cheaper for me to buy a new PC, since i am in a habit of formatting and re-installing Windows XP on a average once every 15 days Barry "Malke" <notreally@invalid.com> wrote in message news:Oq1VsDn$FHA.3852@TK2MSFTNGP14.phx.gbl... > Barry wrote: > > > Hi > > > > I find about 8-9 unwanted "PCI Simple Communications > > Controller" > > entries in the Device Manager window, i also see that at system start > > up (BIOS). > > The problem with these extra devices is that i cannot install > > Windows > > XP , it stops at "34 Minutes remaining" stage. > > Is there some way i can remove/delete these entries, i am > > presently > > using Window 2003 Server for all my day-to-day computing work. > > > Setup stops responding with 34 minutes remaining - > http://support.microsoft.com/default...&Product=winxp > > Malke > -- > MS-MVP Windows User/Shell > Elephant Boy Computers > www.elephantboycomputers.com > "Don't Panic" |
