I just installed a Creative Labs Live card. I thought being in the PCI slot
it would have sound immediately upon being installed. I have no sound when attempting to play music off the HDD. I notice there are pins for on the card, one of which I know is for connecting the card to a CD rom, but am I supposed to also be connecting some wire from the card to the MOBO? |

You need to install the drivers for the card before you have sound. The card will have come with a cd and some written installation instructions. Read them and install the drivers. I should have told you I guess. The card is installed in system properties
with no exclamation point. It says working properly. In Control Panel|Sounds and Audio Devices, under the AUDIO tab, verify that the default device is your soundcard. -- For most XP answers and tweaks... http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_abc.htm http://dougknox.com http://aumha.org http://support.microsoft.com |

Well, I uninstalled my new ATI radeon video card and removed it from the
MOBO physically and then reinstalled the sound card. It came right up with no problems at all. I had noticed that the new video card installed several things under the Sound Properties in Windows Device Properties. I will now try to reinstall the video card now that I have the sound card working right. But I think I am going to have to get a less demanding video card. This ATI radeon x800 256 bit is probably not going to work well with my old Asus MOBO. Some of the older motherboards will have conflicts in what each PCI card is
using. Sometimes you can't use PCI 1 and 2 or 2 and 3, etc. Just try swapping the cards into differnt slots. The motherboard manual should have exclusions. Analog audio is sent over the audio cable connected to the CD Rom. You need to correctly install the drivers. -- --- Y. |
