Default hardrive problem

The hardrive on a computer has been damaged and I am unable to boot it up
(even in safemode) so I can retrieve important files. It gets as far a the
blue screen of death where it tells me that windows xp has halted the
operation and to reboot and start up in safemode. I have removed the
hardrive and installed it unto another computer to see if there was another
underlying problem, but it is indeed the hardrive that has become damaged.

Anyone know what else i can do to retrieve the data.

Pat

Here are a few file recovery tools:
http://www.restorer2000.com/r2k.htm
http://www.hddrecovery.com.au
http://bootmaster.filerecovery.biz
http://www.runtime.org/ (GetDataBack)
http://www.runtime.org/ (has a trial version)
www.acronis.com (RecoveryExpert)

You could also give your disk to a data recovery
service. Be prepared for a stiff bill.

If all this does not work then you may have to consider
this unfortunate event as a stark reminder that all important
files must be backed up to an independent medium at
regular intervals, e.g. once a week. A hard disk in an
external USB case would be an excellent medium, and
it's cheap too.

I highly recommend FileRestore from http://www.winternals.com/

My experiences with Restorer2000 have been very unpleasant - recommend
staying away from it
