My external storage device, when connected to my USB port complains but is
detected but, is not detected under my computers and I can not access the drive. Can you please help? When I plug in my external hard drive, the following message appears: " The USB Mass Storage Device is a HI-SPEED USB device and will function at a reduced speed when plugged into a non-HI-SPEED port." Apparently "there are no HI-SPEED USB host controllers installed on this computer." I am running windows xp home edition sp2 with the following host controllers installed: Intel(r) 82801 BA/BAM USB Universal Host Controller - 2442 Intel(r) 82801 BA/BAM USB Universal Host Controller - 2444 I have also installed service packs 1, 2 and 3. On the Microsoft page, it states that the service pack 1 contains a high speed USB driver. So I should have one too. I have also downloaded Intel Chipset Drive for my computer. |

Sounds like the external USB device is designed as a USB 2.0 item and your
motherboard supports USB 1.1; that's why you get the errors. Go to Best Buy, Circuit City, etc and buy an add-in PCI card that has USB 2.0 support. Gaya,
You have USB 1.1 and not USB 2.0 - otherwise the controllers would report "Enhanced" or USB 2 in the Device Manager listing. You could purchase/install a pci USB 2.0 card if you have a free slot. That would do it. Fred Gaya wrote: > My external storage device, when connected to my USB port complains but is > detected but, is not detected under my computers and I can not access the > drive.
