Default CD Rom Problems

I have a computer I was given. Running windows XP. It recognizes 2
hard drives and the A drive. (A, C, D) I cannot get it to recognize
the 2 cd rom drives. One is a CD RW. I checked the cables and all are
attached and there is power. Any idea as to what the problem is? The
person who had it before me had just installed XP so the CD Rom had to
have worked. Any chance something came loose during shipping?

Thanks,

M

the following Instructions.

Tried that fix and REG_MULTI_SZ is not in there. I tried option 2,
but there are no questions marks in the device manager. I even
switched out CD Roms with another pc. Still nothing.

If the 2 CD drives are on the same channel, is this IDE
channel active in BIOS setup?

Just barely got time to give attention to this PC again. I can get
into the bios, but do not know where to look for it. Afraid I will
screw something up. On boot up it does show Primary master, Primary
slave, then on Secondary master and slve it shown none.
