I have a Model: ATI RADEON 9200 SERIES video card.
Driver: ati2mtag.sys



When I do any kind of work in 3d it works for awile and then sometimes my
computer will just restart automatically. Sometimes it flashes a blue screen
first but it goes away so fast I can't read what it says. When the
computer restarts it will sometimes give me an error box saying " Your
computer has recovered from a serious error, would you like to send an error
report." I did it before and all it says is that it could be a video driver.
Someone told me to update my bios but its only like one year old. I think it
could be the driver but I'm not sure.

Is there a way to confirm if it is or not because I have two fans plus the
power supply fan. The only fan I don't have in my case is a SYS fan. Oh and
another thing , I've noticed that during a 3d application my processor
useage goes to 100% and flatlines is that normal?

Go to the Control Panel and select the System applet.
Look on the Advanced tab for the Startup and Recovery options - click
Settings.
Under System Failure you'll see a check box to enable/disable the automatic
restart on failure.

Clear the checkbox and you'll have time to study any blue screen error
messages.

In your specific hardware configuration I couldn't say if that is not
normal. IF you are using software rendering of 3d, then yes that would
definitely crank the processor to 100%. That REALLY ups the heat output
of the CPU so that is likely the reason for the crash. The "number" of
fans won't do any good if the heatsink isnt properly mounted or it's
fins are full of crud, or the air inlet to the case is blocked. Start
looking at whether you have effective cooling.

> Thanks next time it does it I'll make sure and read the blue screen. One question though when I was installing my cpu heatsink I accidentally let it touch and then lifted it. I was worried that I would have to get a new heat sink or thermal paste but the cpc idles at about 39 tp 45 degrees celcius. So I just assumed that I didnt do any damage. Could that be my problem? Bad thermal paste?
