Default Help with lost Hdd space

Windows XP home SP2 is reporting I have 68 gigs used and 4 gigs free on a 72
gig partion on my second HDD. I know for a fact that there is at least 22
gigs free on that partition. How can I fix this problem.

Here is what happened. Windows showed that I had 22 gigs free on my "F"
partion. I did a Norton Ghost "backup" of my "C" drive to a folder on that
partition. It used up about 18 gigs of the F drive. I didn't like the way
the backup was completed so I deleted the backup files but apparently Windows
thinks those deleted files are still there. How do I get this "missing"
space on my HDD back.

Thanks for the help. Mike

Empty the recycle bin.

Select files for deletion. Right click those. Select delete while holding
down the shift key.

I guess I forgot to mention that I emptied the recycle bin. The Recycle bin
shows that it is empty. The Folder that had the backup shows that it is
empty but apparently the files are still there taking up space (about 18 gigs
worth) . I even did a check of each folder on that partition. It adds up to
about 50 gigs but Windows says the partition has 68 gigs used.

Any other ideas on how I can get this missing space back? Thanks. Mac

Use one of these tools to find out what's eating up your
disk space:
DriveUse:

Bullet Proof Folder sizes: http://www.foldersizes.com/

Thanks Pegasus, I'll try using the Driveuse program to see whats up with HDD.
As for emptying the recycle bin I'm a little confused. I just right click
on the Recycle Bin and select "Empty Recycle Bin". If I want to remove
selected items I just select the items, right click and select delete. I'm
not sure why you have to hold down the shift key while selecting Delete.

It might be in the system restore folder. The folder is system volume
inforamtion. Unfortunately you cant access that folder . If you want to che
ck it you need to take ownership of the folder. You could turn off system
restore which would delete all rstore points. If you get all your space back
turn it back on. Its 4 am where I am so I cant be bothered to write out how
to take ownership. If you want to know either search google or microsoft or
repost here if you want and someone will tell you how.
