I'll assume this is onboard sound on the motherboard. Try downloading the
drivers from the manufactures website. Ensure the onboard sound is enabled in the BIOS. Remove the old drivers (either through Add/Remove Programs if listed, or through System Properties). Restart and install new drivers specifying the file/location of the downloaded drivers. Fitz Having similar problem, and haven't been able to enable the sound card, though have tried on multiple attempts to uninstall / reinstall drivers. Also have AC 97, Avance/ realtek. The program, Soundman runs in the program manager, and exists in the startup menu, but when i click it to open it nothing occurs, just the programs menu exits as though the program has been accessed. But Device manager shows no audio device., and settings show that sound device so that would make sense that nothing happensSounds and Audio Devices show as follows: Volume: No Audio Device Sounds: Windows Default Audio: Modoem #5 Line Playback Voice: "same" Hardware: Unimodem Half-duplex device Audio Codecs Legacy Audio Drivers Media Control Devices Legacy Video Capture devices Video Codecs Assuming that one would know the appropriate devices for my CPu, is this correct?S o now with more info, my question directly pertaining to the thread as alluded to; When you say "Restart and install new drivers specifying the file/location of the downloaded drivers" Do you mean specify the location from which to install the drivers or do you mean mean specify where the drivers are to be loaded to, as in checking that the drivers are loading to the correct folder, sorry even writing seems ludicrous, but i've tried much else? love to hear your thoughts thanks!!! |

Also, In reasearching my computer, and updating the drivers for the chipsets etc, i was looking at whether the problem could be from the ATA/ IDE controller not functioning correctly, in so doing I found a bunch of XMl documents from C:windows PChealth heatlth center udner a file called Datacoll,, is this normal, and if so would these files store the information that i could search for the problem? |

right click my computer, then properties, then hardware, then device
manager, then scroll down to sound and video and game controllers, expand selection and see if you have a yellow exclamation mark. if you have then press update drivers with the disk that you have. you will have to select which drive your disk is in for the device to load the drivers from. email address as follows brian@brianmurphy1.wanadoo.co.uk let me know how you got on? |
