Try a different USB port.

It shouldn't be a problem.... these ports are on the motherboard?

Did you try a different USB cable?

Are the USB ports working correctly with all other USB devices?

Try downloading a new set of drivers from the Lexmark website.

Shutdown the PC.... disconnect the PC (temporarily) from the internet by
disconencting the USB modem.

Start up the PC, install the printer software and see if it now correctly
recognizes the printer. If it does, it may indicate that your PSU is not
outputting sufficient wattage to power both USB ports at once. BTW a
printer with a USB port can be considered a USB hub in addition to being a
printer. Sure they are designed to connect a digital camera, but there
really is nothing to stop any USB device being 'daisy chained' in this way
provided the power is sufficient.
