Default External Hard Drive

I recently got a acomdata 80 gb external hard drive, and plugged it in and it
worked just fine, but it wouldn't let me store anything from my C: drive on
it (ex: i transferred my iTunes library to my F: drive, opened iTunes, and my
whole library was gone because it was no longer located in the C: drive
area). Then I discovered there was an installation disk with the hard drive.
I'm sure it would've helped, but now whenever i put the disk in, it won't
run, just opens as a folder. To install it correctly, I need my computer to
recognize the hard drive as new so I can go through the right process. I've
tried system restore, but my only checkpoint of the month won't do me any
good.

Any advice?
My computer is low on space so I really need this drive to work.

Did you reconfigure iTunes to look for the files on F:? What happens if you
transfer those files back to where they were on C:?

Why do you have to "recognize the hard drive as new" if the computer can already
see and transfer files to it? What do you think the installation disk is
supposed to do?

If you have successfully transferred the iTunes library from C: to F:, then the
new HD is apparently working just fine. Now you have to learn how to use it
correctly. Reconfiguring iTunes will be a start...

If you're brave and mechanically inclined enough, take the hard drive out of
the case. If the drive maker indicates "Jupiter", chunk it in the trash and
replace it now with a WD, Seagate, Maxtor, or Hitachi model 120GB.
Will save you some heartache in a couple of weeks from now at least that was
my experience.
