I am confused about whether or not I should install the latest driver from
the ATI website for my ATI Radeon 9700 Pro. When going to the ATI website they say you should only install a new driver if you are having problems with your card and that not all drivers work with all configurations. My driver version is several versions back and was last uptated through Windows Update. Games tell you that you should have the latest drivers installed for your video card. I have also read that here in this forum and other places. I am not having any problems with my card but I am wondering if I should update my drivers to the current version. Thanks for any input. |

New drivers are released to fix bugs, and if you don't have a problem with
the bugs, what do you think will be fixed?.. if it ain't broke, don't fix it.. a saying that has been around for a long time, and no less true because of that fact.. .. -- Mike Hall MVP - Windows Shell/User "SunCat" <SunCat@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:0930E9BB-6956-4A1B-96BC-19144964D5A3@microsoft.com... >I am confused about whether or not I should install the latest driver from > the ATI website for my ATI Radeon 9700 Pro. > > When going to the ATI website they say you should only install a new > driver > if you are having problems with your card and that not all drivers work > with > all configurations. First, you should never update video drivers using Windows update; always
get the latest drivers from the video card manufacturer. Second, whether or not I am having issues with my present drivers I always update whenever the newer version comes out because there is always a reason drivers are updated even if I am not presently having a problem. Third, I am using a Radeon 9800 Pro w/256Mb of RAM and Catalyst 5.13 "SunCat" <SunCat@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:0930E9BB-6956-4A1B-96BC-19144964D5A3@microsoft.com... >I am confused about whether or not I should install the latest driver from > the ATI website for my ATI Radeon 9700 Pro. > > When going to the ATI website they say you should only install a new > driver > if you are having problems with your card and that not all drivers work > with > all configurations. Humm, observing what happens in the real world indicates you haven't
seen it yet. Jerry wrote: > So - I don't. Big deal. > > "MAP" <mikepawlak2REM@OVEhotmail.com> wrote in message > news:OMEuuyHDGHA.1676@TK2MSFTNGP09.phx.gbl... > >>I agree with Mike Hall! >>The latest and greatest does not always mean the best and the badest. >> >>-- >>Mike Pawlak >> >> > > > |

FWIW...I have 3 boxen with ATI 8500, 9200 and a 9600 I use the
latestt drivers without a problem. As a matter of fact the same catalyst is used for all three. Never a problem. kenny wrote: > Windows XP aint broke.. why get Vista...? > I dont think Bill would like your logic...hehehe... > "Mike Hall (MS-MVP)" <mikehalll@mvps.org> wrote in message > news:OwpCAECDGHA.3820@TK2MSFTNGP12.phx.gbl... >> New drivers are released to fix bugs, and if you don't have a >> problem with the bugs, what do you think will be fixed?.. if it >> ain't broke, don't fix it.. a saying that has been around for a long >> time, and no less true because of that fact.. .. >> "SunCat" <SunCat@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message >> news:0930E9BB-6956-4A1B-96BC-19144964D5A3@microsoft.com... >>> I am confused about whether or not I should install the latest >>> driver from the ATI website for my ATI Radeon 9700 Pro. >>> >>> When going to the ATI website they say you should only install a new >>> driver >>> if you are having problems with your card and that not all drivers >>> work with >>> all configurations.
