I'm installing a linksys USB wireless network adapter. Am following all
instructions. Computer recognizes adapter and prompts me to look for drivers. Per linksys manual, I'm inserting CD-Rom and instructing XP to find drivers there. However, no matter what I do, XP doesn't find any drivers. Can anyone help? |

USB devices almost always require that the drivers are installed first.. the
installation program will tell you when to insert the USB device.. -- Mike Hall MVP - Windows Shell/User <bjjp2@aol.com> wrote in message news:1135998490.716375.281950@f14g2000cwb.googlegr oups.com... > I'm installing a linksys USB wireless network adapter. Strange, because the online manuals on the Linksys site all state that the
drivers should be loaded first.. that is to say, the quick installation manuals.. what model USB adapter do you have? Also, I have yet to come across a USB device that didn't require drivers loading first.. -- Mike Hall MVP - Windows Shell/User <bjjp2@aol.com> wrote in message news:1136001064.993905.53970@g44g2000cwa.googlegro ups.com... > > Mike Hall (MS-MVP) wrote: >> USB devices almost always require that the drivers are installed first.. >> the >> installation program will tell you when to insert the USB device.. >> >> -- >> Mike Hall >> MVP - Windows Shell/User >> > > Actually, the manual here specifically says for XP not to use the > normal setup program, but to install the hardware first. > |

Do NOT run the Setup Wizard." Adapter is WUSB11 ver. 2.6 It's so wierd, because I also downloaded the drivers on a different computer and then copied them to the hard drive of the computer at issue. The computer recognizes the adapter, but no matter what I do, when I point it to the right place on the CD drive and/or on the hard drive, it says it's not finding any drivers. |

I just downloaded the drivers from the Linksys website.. obviously, I can do
nothing with them as I do not have a Linksys adapter, but I was interested to see what would happen.. Having downloaded the file, I ran it.. a folder called Linksys Drivers was set up on the root directory of C C:/Linksys Drivers.. What I would suggest is that you do this, and then when asked, point to the folder.. if the driver is still not found, keep trying each subfolder until you have to point it directly at the 'PRISMUSB' file in the subfolder 'WINXP'.. if you get no resolution, your best bet is to contact Linksys directly.. -- Mike Hall MVP - Windows Shell/User <bjjp2@aol.com> wrote in message news:1136005802.159533.107970@g14g2000cwa.googlegr oups.com... > > > Mike Hall (MS-MVP) wrote: >> Strange, because the online manuals on the Linksys site all state that >> the >> drivers should be loaded first.. that is to say, the quick installation >> manuals.. what model USB adapter do you have? >> >> Also, I have yet to come across a USB device that didn't require drivers >> loading first.. >> >> -- > > Instructions say: "Note to Windows XP users: You must install the > Adapter's hardware before installing the software. Tried this. It just doesn't recognize that file as a driver. Is there a
way to manually install a driver? Thanks for help. Is this the one that uses 2000 drivers which are not signed by any chance.
If it is, I chucked them back and bought another make that did have XP drivers that worked as the previous person said, ie, you load the software, then insert the device. One question, one machine gave the effect you are talking about, it turned
out that another driver had already been loaded, and I had to remove it, then weed it from the registry, then reboot and it found it. No, I've no idea why either. Drivers are a pain when they don't work as it seems the fix could be any number of things, often determined by the machine's install history. Linksys drivers usually are in different folders for different OS's. You will have to drill down to the proper folder. |
