Default cd driver

help! I can play cd's , but my D drive won't recognise dvd's. It tells me
there's no disc in the drive, when i know full well there's one in there!
Don't ask me what driver it is, because i haven't a clue, i know its a
samsung! I'm running windows xp. I have power dvd software from an earlier
computer, but that didn't work neither. Any suggestions in english a five
year old would understand? Thanks

That PowerDvd software may be obsolete or not XP compatibile. Uninstall
it from Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs.
Then give this a try. It has a 7 day free trial.

But as Jon suggested your drive may not be a Dvd drive. Maybe a
Cdr/Cdrw Drive.
