Default any free software to view 2 comps on one monitor?

I am going to be turning my old comp into a file server, and I was just
wondering if there was any free software out there that would allow me to
share the old computer with the monitor on my main one? I mean, I would like
to be able to view the old comp on my current monitor that is attached to
the new computer. I am aware of such programs that I have to pay for. Any
free ones?

If your monitor had two inputs; i.e. one DVI and one analog. then hook one
to each and switch between them.

If both PCs are running XP with SP2 then i think Remote Desktop is the easy
way to do it.

VNC or TightVNC - search google for them.

Any of the VNC derivatives should work and most of them are free. But,
once your "server" is working properly, you really won't need to look at
it or do anything else fiddly with it. You certainly don't need to even
log in on the computer because file and print sharing work fine with the
system at the login prompt.

You need to logon on a regular schedule to check the event logs and to
check the drive for faults - as a measure of maintenance.
