Default Help with External hdd and USB 2.0 Card

Hi all,

I have recently purchased a new USB 2.0 PCI Card (Creative I/O) and
installed it on my desktop. As well I have bought a new maxtor 200 GB
harddrive along with an external enclosure (Sabrent). The harddrive was
set up on my laptop, which has usb 2.0 and everything works fine. But
when I plug my harddrive into the new USB card that I have installed on
my desktop, an error occurs when I try to access it and the error code
is something like "Cannot Access. Harddrive is corrupted or structure
is incompatible".

I was forced to format the harddrive on my laptop. After the format, I
checked the harddrive by plugging it into my laptop and the USB 1.1
ports that was on my desktop and it works fine. But as soon as I plug
it into the USB 2.0 ports, the error occurs again. I tried plugging
other devices into the new USB card, including my mouse, and everything
else seems to work fine. Can anyone suggest solutions? I assume my
harddrive should be fine because it works on my laptop....

Thanks
Phil

Your desktop needs either SP2 installed or you need to install the drivers
that came with the USB 2.0 card.

Some motherboards need special drivers to make the usb 2.0 to work
correctly.

For example motherboards with VIA chipsets need the VIA 4 in 1 drivers

Look in the cd that came with your motherboard or consult the support site
for it.

Did you look in Device Manager? Under Universal Serial Bus Controllers,
do you have an entry that states blah blah blah USB2 Enhanced Host
Controller.
If not, drivers and SP2 are both required.
