Default CD-r/rw drive

My drive will let me put in a cd and play it, show photo's etc.

However, if I try to copy anything on to the cd drive my comp does not see
it. ie media player does not see I have a cd or rw drive at all, it says
there are no devices.

Also if I try to copy photo's on to my cd-r/rw drive it says it is not
accessable.

Any ideas?
