Greetings,
I can no longer view jpgs or other format thumbnails in windows explorer. The only exception is Paint Shop Pro files, whose thumbnails show up fine. I'm running Win XP SR 2. This only happened recently. Jpgs can be opened and viewed in other programs. Any help in reestablishing the ability to view jpgs will be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Ira |

John,
Thanks for your quick reply. Unfortunately, I am unable to view thumbnails of jpg, tiff, bmp, or gif files, despite using the normal technique you describe. Paint Shop Pro files appear as thumbnails. Do you have any other suggestions for restoring the ability to view thumbnails? Should I check for the presence of any specific dlls, or whether they are registered correctly? Again, thanks in advance. Ira John wrote: > Within my pictures folders or any other folder, right click and select view > as thumbnails. > |

John,
Tried the repair. File seemed to run ok. I rebooted, but still have the problem. I copied the line "Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00" into notepad since it was betweent the lines. Was this correct? Any other suggestions? I haven't done a restore; everything else works well, so I don't want to restore if I don't have to. Tnanks again. Ok Then we can only try again
Download the file here and re-associate the files with thumbnail view. http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/regs..._thumbnail.exe -- Regards John MCP Windows XP Professional "isatinov" <isatinov@comcast.net> wrote in message news:3uednQKKjIV1xSHeRVn-gA@comcast.com... > John, > > Tried the repair. John,
I really appreciate your trying to help with this issue. Unfortunately, I still can't get thumbnails to show in windows explorer. The file you recommended does not have a checkbox for jpg thumbnails. I assume jpgs are coded some other way in windows? In any event, have any suggestions on how to troubleshoot this? Anything for me to investigate. I've got a work around, but it's inconvenient. I can pull up thumbnails on Irfanview thumbnail viewer. But I like to see other files that are also kept in the directories where I store images. Thanks again. Have you tried typing the following in the run dialog box.
regsvr32 %windir%\system32\shimgvw.dll But Microsoft recommends unregistering the shimgvw.dll file due to a WMF exploit until a hotfix has been deployed and installed. Ira,
Type in Start, Run: regsvr32 shimgvw.dll Generic icon is displayed for a picture file when in Thumbnail view: http://windowsxp.mvps.org/imagethumb.htm Also, don't forget to visit this link below (recommended by WTC) http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sec...ry/912840.mspx -- Regards, Ramesh Srinivasan, Microsoft MVP [Windows XP Shell/User] Windows® XP Troubleshooting http://www.winhelponline.com "isatinov" <isatinov@comcast.net> wrote in message news:krCdnaMj-Zhy2SHeRVn-iA@comcast.com...
