I have posted this [2] times BEFORE my postings on piracy and theft of
software so the lack of response has nothing to do with that. Either someone doesn't know, care or thinks the problem is not worth answering. I've seen some people get answers here, many times. Anyway, here is the problem. WORD97 and EXCEL97 both show an error when opening a saved document, spreadsheet. it says "file already open would you like to make a copy" or it says "cannot open because file is already open are you sure" I 'never' open a file when this doesn't happen. I have the original cd. So, is there some fix to this or what? Will anyone help on this [3rd] attempt? |

Post back with the *exact* error messages.
Click on the error popup and hit Ctrl + C to copy the error message. Paste that error message and post back. -- Hope this helps. Let us know. You can try this.
Paste the following line in the Start | Run box and click OK... "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Excel.exe" /regserver You should get a popup stating whether it worked or not. But it seems to be a known problem with Office 97 and XP. [[It is a known problem with Office 97 and WinXP. To the best of my knowledge, it doesn't hurt anything and doesn't affect any operations. Either ignore it or upgrade to a later version of Excel.]] http://forums.techguy.org/business-a...ml#post2828803 XL97: Error Opening File from Address Bar in Microsoft Internet Explorer http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;184159 XL2000: Error Opening Excel File from Internet Explorer Address Bar http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;200704 -- Hope this helps.
