Default Switching user = crash

whenever i go to start - log off - switch user...
it goes to the first windows screen where you see the list of users.. if i
click on another user, it just turns black and nothing ever happens.
I've discovered that I can log off of a user then open another, but just not
switch.
An initial system restore did not help.
Having delved deeper I have found that I have a DCOM error, but I don't know
if that is the problem.
I have also been suffering erratic start ups.
It is not viral, as I've scanned myself silly.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Lund

I suggest you post copies of recent Warning and Error Reports from the
System Log of Event Viewer.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Administrative Tools,
Event Viewer. When researching the meaning of the error, information
regarding Event ID, Source and Description are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default...&Product=winxp

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button resembling two pages. Double click the button and close Event
Viewer. Now start your message(email) and do a paste into the body of the
message. This will paste the info from the Event Viewer Error Report
complete with links into the message. Make sure this is the first paste
after
exiting from Event Viewer.

Hope this helps.

I've solved the problem once, I've restored to recreate and i'm in the middle
of trying it again (sucker for pumishment). I disable comm and application
in msconfig.
Then i turned of fast switching. Restarted. Renabled com and applications
then tried to turn on fast switching, this prompted me to disable offline
file sharing.
That done everything worked ok again. The file sharing must have been
something to do with an attempt at setting up a home network I had recently.
