I am experiencing intermittent DNS issues whereby I can monitor the DNS
requests being sent and the DNS replies being received, however internet services which rely on the DNS responses being received, eventually time out with "host unreacable" or " server cannot be located". The services impacted are email (Outlook Express6), internet browsing (via IE6), even Sam Spade "Whois" queries. I am running XP Pro SP2 and monitor the dial in traffic via Ethereal 10. I have noticed that stopping and starting the DNSAgent service, intermittently "clears" whatever is preventing the DNS responses to be passed onto the expecting services, but not always. If i renoot my system, DNS seems fine initially however eventually i encounter the DNSresponse not filtering to the expecting service. It has to be my XP system as I have tried another XP laptop dialling in to the same ISP and the problem does not occur. Anyone else experienced this problem or have any suggestions? |
