Default How to re- enable Windows pop-up messages

A while back I had reason to disable (via the registry) the various pop-ups
that Windows throws up for warnings about new hardware and such like. Now
I'd like to re-enable them and can't remember what the key changes were. Are
there any obvious registry settings I could check and reset to get the
pop-ups working again. I get the bing-bong sounds but no message windows,
which is becoming a bit frustrating.

Cheers,
-Neil F.
