Trying to install an update to my Fix-it utilities program. The disc drive
spins up, then nothing happens. Neither drive (mine are labeled e and f) shows up in the my computer screen. I tried to run it from the START RUN menu but I get the message "e:\ refers to a location that is unavailable". Same message for the f drive. I also ran the dougknox program I saw referred to here on the board, but no success. I don't use the drives that often, but they has been working fine. Ideas? |

Thanks for the quick response, Gerry. I checked in disc management and only
the c and d drives show up (this Compaq is partitioned and the d drive is where the "installation manual" and other operating sutff is stored. I have no idea what a TweakUi is, but I ran a search and it is not on my machine. What is it and what is it supposed to do? "Gerry Cornell" wrote: > Are they visible in Disk Management? Power Toy TweakUi
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/d...powertoys.mspx The relevance to your original question is that TweakUi can be used to hide drives. Are there any yellow question marks in Device Manager? Right click on the My Computer icon on your Desktop and select Properties. Hardware, Device Manager. If yes what is the Device Error code? Look in Event Viewer at the System and Application logs for Warning or Error report and post a copy here You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Administrative Tools, Event Viewer. HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP http://support.microsoft.com/default...&Product=winxp A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a button resembling two pages. Double click the button and close Event Viewer. Now start your message(email) and do a paste into the body of the message. This will paste the info from the Event Viewer Error Report complete with links into the message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from Event Viewer. Hope this helps. There are ways to eliminate the Event ID:256 error but I think you need to try to resolve the Event ID: 7026 error because it would appear to relate to your original complaint Imapi.sys is a driver provided by Microsoft. Cdr4_2K.sys is a driver coming from Easy Creator ( Roxio software ). What is the status of Easy Creator on your machine? Have your removed Easy Creator? What versions of Easy Creator are involved? -- Hope this helps. Thanks for the info Gerry. Things are starting to make some sense. Easy
Creator is not on my machine. I remember removing it quite a while back. When I went to use it at that time, it said I needed to upgrade for 50 bucks (or something similar) and then I found out I could Windows to perform the same function. I ran a search again for both the Easy Creator and Roxio, but the search returned nothing. I don't remember the version of easy creator, but I think it came with the machine (Compaq Presario 7000 series) which I purchased in 2002. I also did a search for both of the drivers you mentioned. The search for Cdr4_2k.sys returned no results. The search for Imapi.sys returned three files: Serivce Pack uninstall \Windows\system32\drivers \service pack files\i386 Carl "Gerry Cornell" wrote: > cbh > > There are ways to eliminate the Event ID:256 error but I think you need > to try to resolve the Event ID: 7026 error because it would appear to > relate to your original complaint > > Imapi.sys is a driver provided by Microsoft.
