Default Delayed Network Connecting at Boot

Windows XP Pro SP2

Connecting to cable modem through switch through router to network
input of computer.

In the last day or so I am noting a much delayed connecting to the
network/Internet on boot-up. The systray icon (and network/Internet
connection) now takes almost a minute after boot is complete, where it
used to connect almost immediately after boot or even during final
boot loading.
