Default System Restore will not start

Hi there,

I cannot start up System Restore. I have gone into the Services and when I
try to start it up from there the following happens:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Service Control Manager
Event Category: None
Event ID: 7023
Date: 20/12/2005
Time: 17:34:02
User: N/A
Computer: OEM-1H04X0WY1YV
Description:
The System Restore Service service terminated with the following error:
Invalid access to memory location.

Can anyone help me?

Many thanks

Mark

One other item, click on Start, enter 'cmd' in the dialog box (no ' marks),
at the command prompt type: net stat and hit Enter.
Make sure System Restore is in the list.......report back.

Well, it appears I got mine working.....apparently, I had turned something
off in Services (nothing obvious like RPC, Task Manager or System Restore).
After playing around with the information at
http://www.pro-networks.org/XPMaNiA/services.shtml , I decided that
something I changed must have been the culprit, so, I returned everything in
Services back to the default settings and got an auto restore point today.
Still don't know which item (or combination of items) caused the issue, but,
it seems to be resolved. Now I need to figure out why I no longer get a
'warning' popup when I kill my AV or firewall....it used to tell me that
"your computer may be at risk" but, no more. I'll get it......

Thanks Bert,

I have tried to go through this already but it doesn't help.

I need to find out what:

"The System Restore Service service terminated with the following error:
Invalid access to memory location."

means.

Any ideas?

Mark

Hi,

The “Task Scheduler” and “System Restore Service” need to be running for
SR to functions at all.

As for the AV app, I would suggest reinstalling it.

Hi Mark,

Invalid access to memory makes me think virus/spyware infection.

Tips for Virus and Spyware removal and prevention:
http://bertk.mvps.org/html/spyware.html

If that comes up clean, then i would suggest reinstalling SR.

Thanks for your help Bert.

I have ended up reinstalling System Restore. It's not the ideal answer but
at least it's working now.

Hi Mark,

Glad to see you have it working now. One of the SR files must have
