Hi Frank,
Windows XP has a feature called Simple File Sharing.By default, simple file sharing is enabled on a Microsoft Windows XP-based computer if the computer is not a member of a domain. With simple file sharing, you can share folders with everyone on your workgroup or network and make folders in your user profile private. However, if simple file sharing is enabled, you cannot prevent specific users and groups from accessing your shared folders. If you turn off simple file sharing, you can permit specific users and groups to access a shared folder. Those users must be logged on with the credentials of user accounts that you have granted access to your shared folder. To disable simple file sharing, follow these steps: 1. Click Start, and then click My Computer. 2. On the Tools menu, click Folder Options, and then click the View tab. 3. In the Advanced Settings section, clear the Use simple file sharing (Recommended) check box. 4. Click OK. For more information ,please refer to following articles: How to disable simplified sharing and set permissions on a shared folder in Windows XP http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;EN-US;307874 Simple Sharing and ForceGuest <http://www.microsoft.com/resources/d...ll/reskit/en-u s/Default.asp?url=/resources/documentation/Windows/XP/all/reskit/en-us/prde_ ffs_ypuh.asp> Hope it helps. Hi Vincent,
on my machine simple file sharing is deactivated, the user is granted local NTFS-Rights. Actually the folder is not shared. Is it necessary to share the folder and to grant the needed share permissions in order to access it via OpenSSH? (might be a question regarding Interactive/ Network Logon?) BTW, the second link you mentioned is no longer available... Hi,
Sorry for my misunderstanding. From the symptom, it seems that Windows didn't accept your logon authentication. We may make a test. You may configure the remote Windows XP to accept Remote Desktop Connection and try to establish a RDC with the fixed user account. Try to check if the use can access the file without grant everyone read permission.
