I need some help, I recently bought a new game on cd-rom and tried to install
it. It says that I need to uninstall the older version of the game, I've done
this and there is no trace of the game anywhere on my system, yet I still
cannot install the cd-rom game. So what I want to know is how I can create a
new user account without carrying over any of the old program files. If that
is indeed possible. Thanks to anyone who can help me!

Sorry, forgot to mention that I am using Windows xp home edition.

Hi,

I would suggest checking with the manufacturer of the game first.

Was the game uninstalled via Add/remove programs in Control Panel and
how long ago was it?

Hey Bert, the older version of the game was a trial version that I downloaded
from the internet and yes I tried uninstalling it in the Add/Remove programs,
when that did not work, I redownloaded the game from the same webpage and
then went to the start menu and uninstalled it there, that would not work
either. It still says that the older version needs to be uninstalled. I even
tried emptying out my cookies folder, Disk Cleanup, and going through my
Programs folder, but nothing regarding RollerCoaster Tycoon was there. And I
did all of this within the past two days. I remember that on the older
Microsoft Windows 98, there was an option that made each user account
completely separate and carried no old programs over. Is there a way to do
that on Windows xp?

How long ago was it first installed? The reason I ask is that if was
only a couple of day, System Restore could be helpful.

I suspect there are some leftover entries in the registry causing the
install to fail. Are you comfortable editing the registry?

I first downloaded the game from the internet about two weeks ago. And
besides that, in a fit to gain more space on my hard drive, I eliminated all
but the most recent restore point. Though I'm not entirely sure how recent
that is either. I've never edited the registry before either, however, I am
able to learn quickly, so if you were able to tell me what I'm looking for
and where to go, I would feel more than confident in doing so.

To edit the registry, first create a new restore point with System
Restore.

Next download regseeker and start it.

Make sure "Backup before deletion" is checked a the lower left of the
window.

Click on "Find in Registry..." and do a search on RollerCoaster and
Tycoon and delete the entrees.

As long as there are no other installed application with RollerCoaster
and Tycoon in them there should not be a problem.
