I know this is a really basic question but... what is the difference -
resources used, etc. - between having a shortcut in the Start menu or the QuickLaunch bar or on the desktop screen. I want quick access to my most commonly used programs and currently these shortcuts are spread between the above three places. Not very efficient, really. |

I do not believe there is any discernible resource difference between the 3 locations. It comes down to a matter of taste. For applicaitons I use most I have short cuts on the desk top. For toys (internet explorer, media player, internet TV) I use quick launch; I also have the show desktop shortcut on there as well. The start menu is for programms I use infrequently. For any of these shortcut locations there is no background process runnin for the associated applications. Andy |

obviously the QL is for quick access and doesn't clutter desktop.
all items in start menu are basically shortcuts. resources. doesn't apply. All the same. Thanks for the help. Since there is no difference which shortcut "holding pen" I use, I decided to put some folders on my desktop and sort the various shortcuts by type. I eliminated QuickLaunch altogether and left the Start menu for internet and e-mail. Much more efficient. |
