Default Disk Defrag is stuck moving _REGISTRY_MACHINE_SOFTWARE

I have been told that this a HUGE hidden "history" of my computer. I let it
try for over 2 hours. The CPU Performance usage in Task Manager is at 100%.
I'm afraid to stop it. Does it usually take this long? Should I let it go
or stop it.

AOL Computer Check-Up told me to DeFrag but DeFrag said I didn't need to.

I appreciate any advise or direction from ALL of you who have been paying
attention.
Thanks!
Mary

Mary, I had the same problem. It was solved by doing a "Scan Disk".
When that was completed Defrag worked fine and still does.

Here are the steps for doing a Scan Disk :
1. Start
2. My Computer
3. Right click on C:/
4. Click properties (at the bottom)
5. Click on Tools
6. Click on "error checking"
7. Check both boxes and proceed to
scan.

ThankYOU, ronmac60! It took doing disCheck Disk twice, but then defrag ran
real sweet and smooth. I can't thank you enough for taking the time to
answer this for me...
