I've WIN XP SP2 and when I click Start>Control Panel>Security Center, it
tells me the Security Center has either been stopped or not started and to close the window and Restart the PC. Well I've done this 3 times now and Security still says the above. How can I resolve this problem? -- Thanks.....Bill Please reply to the Newsgroup ONLY |

Personally - I cannot stand the all-in-one products such as that, as they generally only do one of their designed purposes well and kludge the rest and they take up HUGE amounts of resources in comparison to other applications individually. However - whatever makes you most comfortable is what you should do.. But it has probably disabled the Windows Security Center because it performs those functions for you now. -- Shenan Stanley MS-MVP -- How To Ask Questions The Smart Way http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html |

It does have a Personal Firewall built-in that supposedly does more than the
XP Firewall. I've been using NIS since 2004 with no problems. Just that with NIS 2005 Security Center was on and showed Norton was providing those services, just installed NIS 2006 and it doesn't show that. I'll send them a note to & see what they say. -- Thanks.....Bill Please reply to the Newsgroup ONLY |

Symantec sent me the below fix for this issue:
1) Click on Start > Run. 2) Type the following and press enter: services.msc 3) Check if the service "Security Center" is started. If the service is not started then, right click on the service and click on start option.--[START WAS GRAY BUT I RIGHT-CLICKED THEN SELECTED PROPERTIES, SET IT TO AUTOMATIC, RESTARTED PC AND SECURITY CENTER IS RUNNING NOW AND HAS NIS 2006 AS BEING THE FIREWALL AND ANTIVIRUS] 4) Click on OK. 5) Restart computer and check for the issue. -- Thanks.....Bill Please reply to the Newsgroup ONLY |
