Two problems: probably the same problem:
1. Intermittently (but it seems more frequently lately) my mouse freezes for 5-10 seconds and then everything is OK again. I think it's happened when connected to the network and also when disconnected so I don't think it's network related. It's as if a background task takes over the computer. 2. Also intermittently (seems related) the CPU beeps at me with the Windows XP ping sound-- at first I thought it was the sound of pop-ups being killed or viruses zapped, but now I wonder if it is the sound of hardware about to fail? This is in Windows XP Home on an eMachines w/ AMD CPU 512 MB of memory. All I ever run is Firefox, iTunes, MS Word and Outlook Spyware, virus and adware programs haven't cleaned this out Some clues: * Hard drive light goes on every time the mouse freezes * beep is sometimes frequent, other times missing altogether. * Whole system does not freeze-- just the mouse. What do you think, overheating? The fan on this unit has always sounded too loud and runs too often |
